Maaaaybe the authorities could set up a mobile phone Geo Fence, and see who had abnormal travel patters (Lingering in one spot on highways, traveling off the beaten path, repeatedly visiting places where the fire started). That seems almost too easy. Unless they DON'T what those people to be caught. 🤷♂️
I had a dorm mate in college that said he was a "sparker". He'd listen to the Boston police and fire scanner and when a structure fire occurred, he'd grab his VHS video camera and film the fire and the FD response to put it out. I couple of us with cars went with him a couple times and he always filmed the crowd as well.
I believe his dad or uncle was a Fire Chief and he said often arsonists would stick around to admire the blaze and chaos they created.
Years later I remember an old abandoned & dilapidated barn with no electricity strangely caught on fire. My friends and I happened to be driving by so we headed immediately to the fire department down the street to inform them.
It was a total loss as it was fully engulfed by the time they got water to it, but I vividly remember after the police arrived and blocked the road, they started interrogating us, the good sanitarians.
Seen some corrupt fire fighters (on 20/20) who started fires also but yes, they have the right skills and know what to do.
I also heard about the Oregon arsonists. Pretend to be good citizens and supply the fire fighters and then start the fire between the different fire camps. Got caught.
I hope the Australians GET THEM.
No 1 on my to do list. GET THEM
