This will not stand. It will be appealed and overturned.
As it stands for now, this will only increase the flight out of public schools. Power is always sustained by the subsidies and monies it receives. When an unwilling public resists the power of the public schools, the public school system will rely more on coercion. This coercion happens to be by property tax. The public school system is supported by property taxes. No one should pay for funding public schools when they are not using public schools. Even retired pensioners are socked with paying for public schools at the threat of having their home and property confiscated if they don't comply. It is wrong and the law should be changed. If public schools depended only on the money from those willing to send their children there, I am sure their attitudes of smugness and superiority would quickly disappear. Parents would be viewed as a important factor for their job survival and treated respectfully instead of widespread disrespected we hear about on a near daily basis. As more coercion becomes evident to the public, parents only resist more and find ways of not funding schools. This is done by removing their children from the public school system. If there are no children left in the public schools to teach, we would soon see massive layoffs and closure of entire schools. Teachers and their unions would be forced to dramatically change their tune.
