The fires are probably from their hastily and shoddily built ghost cities. They build skyscrapers, not to actually use, but just so that their surplus of men have something to do. Combine that with the utter disregard for anything approximating structural integrity or safety, and it’s a wonder there aren’t more fires.

China also sits near the Ring of Fire. That explains the earthquakes. Here’s hoping one of those quakes splits open the Three Gorges.
