Same thing in the south with the Gullah/Geechee people by Charleston and Savannah. The big money developers got local municipalities to raise the hell out of taxes forcing people to sell off land that was in their family for generations.
The developers have all but destroyed Charleston. My husband is from there and I lived there for years. Most of the population is from NY, Ohio, Connecticut etc now… they’ve essentially raped the land overdeveloped it and driven out so many local people. It’s so sad.
Yeah, that's what I am hearing from others as well. I was in Charleston in 2011 and 2016. Second time around it started feeling overcrowded, I started seeing the north parts by Upper King getting bulldozed for more hotels and condos. Even with Mount Pleasant, I used to see Gullah women selling baskets along Johnny Dodds going North. No longer.

So sad. Wish there was a way to mitigate it but they’ve done a lot of damage.
