I read a short story years ago about a family so wealthy and powerful that they were able to stay completely out of the public eye, hidden from view despite owning and/or controlling almost every important institution on Earth. They weren't in hiding, but rather lived their lives as any rich person might, but their name was never mentioned in the news or anywhere else, so the public literally did not know they existed. (It was an impactful, well-crafted story; I wish I could remember the title or author).
The Payseurs sound a lot like that fictional family.
