Extreme meterologist Reed Timmer is on the Island. I don't know if he's staying. 98% of the residents have evacuated they say.

It's now 5 mph under a category 4
The history of category 4 and 5 hurricanes in northern Florida is short. There has only been one since 1851: Michael. NONE have occurred in the Nature Coast, the Big Bend or around Tallahassee. #Idalia will be a storm like no other for the region. #FLwx https://twitter.com/CC_StormWatch/status/1696724583099912515?s=20
Looks like it's moving north and West. Apalachicola landfall. Storm Surge of 12-16 feet for a lot big bend not just the island of Cedar Key
Damn, Cedar Key is a jewel along that desolate section of coast. Shallow water/ flats go out for miles. Yachting crowd steers clear.
I feel we are all about to learn a lot about the geography of the Big Bend area of Florida.
Edit. He does say he's leaving soon.
The Suwanee river is just north of there and that storm surge could go pretty far inland along the river banks.
It's a Category 2 right now with nothing but open water before it hits Florida between Tampa and Tallahasee.
It's intensifying. about 12 hours before landfall.
Min pressure: 965 mb Max sustained: 105 mph Gusts :120 mph
