Welcome to General Chat - GAW Community Area
This General Chat area started off as a place for people to talk about things that are off topic, however it has quickly evolved into a community and has become an integral part of the GAW experience for many of us.
Based on its evolving needs and plenty of user feedback, we are trying to bring some order and institute some rules. Please make sure you read these rules and participate in the spirit of this community.
Rules for General Chat
-
Be respectful to each other. This is of utmost importance, and comments may be removed if deemed not respectful.
-
Avoid long drawn out arguments. This should be a place to relax, not to waste your time needlessly.
-
Personal anecdotes, puzzles, cute pics/clips - everything welcome
-
Please do not spam at the top level. If you have a lot to post each day, try and post them all together in one top level comment

-
Things that are clearly on-topic for this board should be posted as a separate post and not here (except if you are new and still getting the feel of this place)
-
If you find people violating these rules, deport them rather than start a argument here.
-
Feel free to give feedback as these rules are expected to keep evoloving
In short, imagine this thread to be a local community hall where we all gather and chat daily. Please be respectful to others in the same way
This is a pretty interesting article about dog bites, in general. https://petkeen.com/dog-bite-statistics/
I have a dog with a bit of pittie in her. You can’t really tell, I thought she was all boxer until I had her dna tested. I know, it’s a weird thing to do but it was a gift so I did it. Anyway, I was surprised by the results. I trust her with my life. She has only ever licked me to near death. I would not want to be an intruder in my house, though. I didn’t know very much about pit bulls until I found out I had one, LOL. I’ve learned that they get blamed for a lot of bites and attacks based on appearances only in many cases. Do we really know if true pit bulls are responsible for “many” bites or if the many breeds and mixed breeds who look like them are to blame?
12 dogs breeds that look like pitbulls https://www.hepper.com/dog-breeds-that-look-like-pit-bulls/
Like the petkeen article says- until we do a census in every state every 10 years, we’re not going to have accurate stats on this. I don’t think it’s fair to blame this one breed who also has many very positive attributes on being the bad doggo out there.
My sister was bitten in the face when she was little by a Lab. It was a relative’s dog and had supposedly never bitten anyone but it was at a family bbq, chained up and the smell of meat probably triggered something when she tried to pet him. She was extremely lucky because she had puncture wounds inside her mouth and cheek and bruises for a long time on her face. We used to have a dog that was an English shepherd and he never bit anyone his whole long life... until this one girl came over to our house and she had really dark eye makeup on and she was talking to him while he was in his bed and he sprung up like someone attached a giant spring to his butt and almost bit her on the face. Totally didn’t see that coming. I’ve heard so many stories like this.
