No, no. You have it backwards! Bromelain (especially if taken by eating fresh pineapple) actually reduces blood pressure, relaxing the walls of the arteries.
See this:
Does Bromelain reduce or increase blood pressure?
"Bromelain exerts an anti-hypertensive effect when administered for prolonged time periods. Furthermore, it increases vessel wall permeability to oxygen and nutrients while increasing blood fluidity."
And,
Does Bromelain affect heart rate?
"... one trial suggests that doses of bromelain eight times higher than standard recommendations might increase heart rate (but not blood pressure). Safety in young children, pregnant or nursing women, or those with liver or kidney disease has not been established." [But who takes 8x the normal dose, anyway??]
And,
"Does Bromelain remove plaque from arteries?
In vivo and in vitro studies have shown that bromelain dissolved arteriosclerotic plaque in rabbit aorta and it clearly explains the potent fibrinolytic activity of bromelain, which functions by breaking down cholesterol plaques.
My add: Interestingly, Bromelain taken by eating fresh pineapple or fresh pineapple juice is a most potent digestive enzyme and digestive tract solvent that will assist in cleaning hard-to-move feces out of the bowels. The pure juice is actually being recommended as a colon prep liquid before having a colonoscopy, as it works as well as the previous gut cleanser most docs give you, but tastes much better!
How does the Bromelain in pineapple work?
It acts as a solvent in the digestive tract, assisting the body in breaking down undigested food, allowing for quicker and greater absorption. It also softens and flushes out old and dried debris and feces.
After a consistent regimen of eating fresh pineapple, or drinking fresh pineapple juice and or taking bromelain supplements, (I prefer the fresh fruit) you should find yourself with a better performing gut and a cleaner gut, allowing for greater absorption of food nutrients, medications and even alcohol (be aware!).
Thus, due to this 'cleansing of the gut' ability, you may need to reduce your dosage of medication or it may be too strong!
