I had a subscription maybe 30 years ago. I didn't find them particularly left leaning, but they did have a globalists bent (not that that was a thing). Even then they would throw out trial balloons. I remember one article making the argument that in some case torture should be permissible. This well was before the events at Abu Ghraib were exposed.
