Yes, there's that. But, we have to look at Rudy's body of work as a whole, which is quite impressive and good. And also, sometimes you learn that your client or your friend or your spouse has done other not-so-ethical things in the past that you didn't know about. If only we were clairvoyant.
If a lawyer only defends clients who follow the attorney's personal ethical standards, he or she may find that the amount of research needed per client (to determine if they meet the standards) before even taking their case would be cost prohibitive, resulting in a loss of livelihood.
