Yes! Good point. I remember telling a friend about a bullying incident I experienced as a young teen at summer camp. The bully tried to make my life miserable by doing things covertly behind the scenes to cause me problems every day. When I figured out who was behind the actions, I made it stop.
When retelling my memories of that experience, the friend said, "Did you do the same thing back to him, but double?" I replied, "No. That would make me just like him and then I would also be a bully. That would mean he compromised me and 'won.'" Then my friend asked, "Well, what did you do, then?"
I told my friend that I confronted the bully, told him I knew what he had been doing, was going to warn others about his actions and effectively convinced him not to repeat this behavior. It worked and the bullying stopped. That allowed my integrity to remain intact. Years later, we ran into each other and he acted like we were best friends. Go figure.
