I was driving today, and I heard an ad from the National Association of Broadcasters. It was about a congressional bill that could remove AM radio from new cars or something. What really caught my attention, however, was that it mentioned it being “the backbone of the Emergency Alert System”. Is this related to the upcoming test on October 4th, something larger, or just political BS?

I think they are trying to kill talk radio. Heck, all I listen to while in pickup truck is AM.
The real crime is that the climate controls and other settings are built into the radio touchscreen now. You can't just replace the radio. Planned obsolescence at its finest.
Pretty sure there was something similar to this in the late 90's or early 2000's in an effort to remove Rush Limbaugh from the radio.
I heard about it on a talk radio show recently. Auto makers were planning on no longer including AM in new autos. As I recall it has been reversed since AM includes so many conservative shows. Also AM has a much farther distance capability so removing it would end radio to rural Americans.
