Maybe we can look at it like this: Software (machine) programming, and mental (brain) programming, could produce "agents" designed to respond to input in an automated, and repetitive way.

A human agent (shill) trolling for certain content and returning preset dialogue can from an operational standpoint also be a BOT.

Oh for sure. I’ve definitely called several of these alleged people “bots” as a pejorative in the heat of arguments in the past. NCP fits well.
