In addition to higher prices, they also decrease the amount in a given can/carton/etc. I would love to see a chart with price per lb of some staples plotted for each year for the past 10 years. I remember that it seemed not long ago that a week's worth of groceries averaged about $20/bag. Now it seems most items are around $5 each, with each bag averaging about $50!
Iceberg lettuce at 2.49 a head in my area. Heck, I can remember paying 39 cents for it and it wasn’t that long ago
