I'm no geologist, but doesn't the fact that Hawaii's volcanos are constantly active mean that they don't have to worry about catastrophic explosions? Yeah, they have to deal with lava flows, but there's no Mt. St. Helens type event on their horizon.
It's the long dormant volcanoes that we need to fear. Imagine what they super volcano underneath Yellowstone has in store...
