The DOT regulates fuel pumps. The fastest they can pump is 10 gallons per minute in the US. When you sit down and work out the kWH equivalent of that, it's outrageous. They're never going to be competitive on charge times, so they're going to have to constantly enlarge the battery, which leads to more stored energy, which leads to larger hazards, fires and explosions.
Also interestingly, most vehicles have to have a tank that can take up to 20 gallons per minute fueling rate.
The EV people just have zero understanding of "infrastructure" and how or why it gets built.
