It may be worse than you think.

Remember when there was a hurricane in Florida and Tesla downloaded a software update to their customers' cars so that they were not range-limited? If they can do that then they could download software that stops you driving anywhere if they wanted to.

It gets even worse than that. One of the companies Telsa has partnered with has a CEO who layed out the strategy in the coming years to make the autonomous systems that they use a vehicle safty requirement. So no matter if you buy elecyric or not they will have the same capability with your vehicle.
