I do not disagree with you. Although, I would say: it is a multi-layered issue.
What do people read these days? And I should say: what have people been reading for the last 20 odd years?
O yeah ... they know about the next brain fart issued by Bill Gates, or Ursula von der Leyen. They know about Klaus Schwab and all his pinky dick assets.
What is life truly about? Or better phrased: what is generally life about? Is it not about jobs, sex, gender, and the next superficial vogue? The next iphone, the next car, and fill in all you want. It is technically all about materialism.
And why not? The whole damn system is wired like that. The financial system forces one to work 2 or 3 jobs, so you can leave the raising of your children to strangers. We even give birth to our children in the company of strangers we inherently trust. Yet, these actors are the most heinous, as they sell you short immediately the child appears. Of course with good intention. The world is moved by emotion, people act on the basis of emotion, when the emotion runs through their system.
Thinking, appreciation, grace, patience, are difficult and come into conflict with interests, immediate interest geared towards the satisfaction of material goals.
The deeper issues about human existence are far removed. When I consider how difficult it is for many to simply comprehend the way natural law works .... damn ... what hope do we have to really change anything?
But it is to people like us, who do see it, to exert our influence, and, show them it can be done differently. The flipping of the system is close at hand.
Sin that is no longer considered sin. When one sin is considered socially acceptable, then the trickle becomes a flood. Moral accountability and integrity disappear.
We need to get back to the basics to have a solid basis upon which society can be built. Good and evil, right and wrong are relative and vary with philosophies, however, life is real and death is real. If we can agree that life is good and death is bad, then what sustains and promotes life is "good," and that which tends toward death is "evil." This was the Bible's starting point. In the Garden of Eden there were 2 trees, representing 2 choices. There was 1.) the Tree of Life, and 2.) the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil. To choose #2, was to choose death.
Death is a zero, an absence, an absolute nothing. Life is a plus, a something. If everything is a 1 or 0, life is a 1. That people are miserable/depressed just shows that death is operating in them and/or in their circumstances. If life were operating in them, that is, if they had health, love, and hope, they would prefer life. Life is better. Interestingly, Jesus said, "The thief does not come except to steal and kill and destroy. I have come that they may have life, and may have it abundantly (John 10:10).

**The BIGGER PROBLEM is IGNORANCE which is the cause of the FRAGMENTATION.
But behind the IGNORANCE is MANIPULATION and MIND CONTROL by way of mass media, social media, "Influencers",
Behind the MANIPULATION and MIND CONTROL is the AGENDA of the PSYCHOPATHS that want us controlled or dead.
Behind the PSYCHOPATHS is the one who stole their souls and filled the hole with insatiable GREED and DISDAIN for GOOD (GOD). **
