In my opinion, the beginning of the end of the happy family in the US Navy.

According to a navy friend of mine, a lot of these girls worked as hookers on board ship.
They made tons of money.
I don't doubt it. A while back PBS aired a documentary on the building of the Alaskan pipeline. One of the women interviewed had a job on the crew - I don't recall now what she did, it was a lot of work for good pay. In any case she mentioned making money on the side doing "favors" that paid better than her full time gig. I bet she wasn't the only one doing that. Why would the Navy be any different? If you think about it, the DS has been in the business of ruining lives and marriages for a very long time, and what better way than to create a situation ripe for temptation.
It happens
If you only knew what goes on aboard a carrier, which is a small city of 5000 people.......
There are hookers and gangs and pimps and bootleggers. There are places on a carrier you don't go because you might get shanked if its not your "turf".
The navy has ZERO handle on the culture of deviance and rot that it not only derelicted in ignoring the problem, it fosters it in many ways.
I believe every word. I saw it when they came home, EVERY TIME. It was more like a walk of shame
My brother was a Marine on a navy ship. He had a few stories.
“DS has been in the business of ruining lives and marriages for a very long time, and what better way than to create a situation ripe for temptation.” !!!
Paid to end commissions? I’ve always wondered this. So much scandal when they started deploying.
