In my opinion it sounds like the man was financially drained and now latched on to a movement that he can profit from, from speaking arrangements to selling books, etcetera. I just don't ever think he's sounded truly sincere or unmotivated by fame and fortune. This may be a lazy explanation but my mind is on my dog's surgery today.
