If the founding fathers and those who supported them were less than extraordinary, the USA would today be in the same conditions as the United States of Mexico (yes, that's the country's official name), or the various countries liberated by Simón Bolívar, tilting from right-wing strongman to left-wing socialist junta. Our country is exceptional, and was guided by freedom-loving visionaries, regardless of their human flaws.
