I agree these charts show in increase in earthquakes, but it should be pointed out that there is not a direct relationship between the two graphs, except an increase in both. These are a log function meaning to get to the next highest number, you have to multiple by 10. So, to go from 3 to 7, you multiply 10x10x10x10x=10,000. (10 raised to the power of 4). This means for each 7 earthquake, you need 31,623 of 2.5. Graph of 2.5 shows only 30,000 range, so each point equals a single 7 on the 7 chart which is showing in the number 15 range. That means for each point on the 7 chart (at 15 earthquakes) there is the equivalent of 31,600 x 15 = 474,000 of 2.5's So, if your area needs a 7 to relieve stress, you better hope for a big one, or you will need one hell of lot of little ones: 10: 6's, 100: 5's, 1,000: 4's, 10,000: 3's, etc. This size of earthquakes is dependent on a lot of factors such as plate interactions, soil/rock type, moisture content, etc. A fascinating new aspect is the relationship to solar activity and the global electric circuit which has given days or weeks advance warning in areas knows of high pressure (see blot echo maps). See what NOAA, NASA etc., are not telling you. With solar cycle 25 underway, we are seeing an increase in earthquakes, volcano eruptions, hurricanes, etc., with a decrease (yes decrease) in global temperature. An interesting notion is that a hurricane is really an electric event set off by the solar flux/activity is not included in most weather models. https://quakewatch.net/predictioncenter/

Thanks for post PhDinNY.
I wasn't trying to imply a relationship. I just picked magnitude 7 because it is a level that could be considered extreme, since, as you say, 7 is 10x more powerful than 6, and a lot of buildings can take mag 6 quakes, but not too many can handle 7. The increase in both numbers is what I wanted to show, and also how there are ups and downs along the way, sort of like birth pains (contractions) increasing in intensity closer to birth.
Understood, wasn't trying to be critical, just wanted others to see relationship. Lots of changes occurring and we all need to be watchful. Unfortunately we are not always supplied with the information we need to make an informed decision. Thanks for posting this though. Stay safe.
Here is another excellent prospective on earthquakes. He takes a lot of s*&t because he is talking about earthquake pressure that starts deep and spreads around the ring of fire. Actually, from a global electric circuit standpoint, he is spot on. Cosmic rays penetrate to deep layer with water, which caused the water to wick up and puts pressure on layers above, and in tern, causes quakes. Usually starts in Pacific north of New Zealand. That pressure is relieved over time passing around the ring of fire and ends in Atlantic. You can watch this happen if you follow earthquakes every day. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rhewElFu1W8 Stay safe everyone.
