Welcome to General Chat - GAW Community Area
This General Chat area started off as a place for people to talk about things that are off topic, however it has quickly evolved into a community and has become an integral part of the GAW experience for many of us.
Based on its evolving needs and plenty of user feedback, we are trying to bring some order and institute some rules. Please make sure you read these rules and participate in the spirit of this community.
Rules for General Chat
-
Be respectful to each other. This is of utmost importance, and comments may be removed if deemed not respectful.
-
Avoid long drawn out arguments. This should be a place to relax, not to waste your time needlessly.
-
Personal anecdotes, puzzles, cute pics/clips - everything welcome
-
Please do not spam at the top level. If you have a lot to post each day, try and post them all together in one top level comment
-
Try keep things light. If you are bringing in deep stuff, try not to go overboard.
-
Things that are clearly on-topic for this board should be posted as a separate post and not here (except if you are new and still getting the feel of this place)
-
If you find people violating these rules, deport them rather than start a argument here.
-
Feel free to give feedback as these rules are expected to keep evoloving
In short, imagine this thread to be a local community hall where we all gather and chat daily. Please be respectful to others in the same way
Feeling a bit anxious about next week (username checks out).
I have to fly down to N Carolina for work but the 10-4 Emergency Broadcast Alert "test" is happening Wednesday and my family will be on their own if SHTF.
I'm thinking of taking $1,000 in cash just in case I need to get a rental car and drive home. Who knows if this will effect anything like phones, airlines, credit cards etc. Hopefully it's just a test, but at the same time I REALLY want stuff to kick off and start habbening.
Any tips for how else I can prepare my family? We are pretty stocked with non-perishables, water and gas for the generator. 🤞
Maybe ask everyone to turn off their phones tv ipad that day?
Open laptop and send emails to you to keep in touch just for the day. Lock the doors, close windows, and lots of prayers
My spouse works about an hour's drive from our house, so in the event SHTF while he's away, we have talked about this, it sounds like you have the necessities in places, such as food, water, power. Make sure they are comfortable defending the home, I doubt it will come to that, but it's a good resource to have, as well as just knowing neighbors who will be willing to lend a hand if need be. I have great neighbors, and we are all awake on some level, varying levels, but awake enough to know how to help one another out in these uncertain times. Do you have close friends, family, or good neighbors who can help out until you return home if needed?
Thanks Fren.
The neighbor angle might be a possibility. I don't think any of them are awake like your community (this is deep blue New England) and most are elderly so they may be also needing help.
As for the family, they all got their shots and think we are dumb for not being lemmings. But in a time of need, they might pull through as my kids are the youngest in the family.
I am sorry the neighbors and family aren't much help, but it sounds like you and your immediate family will be the ones to comfort and guide those in your family and neighborhood when everything breaks out onto the surface. I have several family members who took the shot, but now regret taking them. They are teetering on the verge of being awake, but they are just barely waking up. There is still so much going on that they seem to be clueless about, and I keep telling them to get stocked up and get ready for what's coming. They are finally starting to realize, it's better to be prepared and not need it than to need it and not have it.
Wow, you've made great progress on your battlefront. God bless and thanks for the tips!
I've got a long way to go in this region. 🤞
