I've always questioned the whole "calls from the planes" part of the stories from that day. I didn't think cell phones worked when up in the air on jets, at least not back in 2001. Can anyone provide a reasonable explanation of how it could have been possible back then?

People had Nokia phones that worked on planes.
How do you know? And if true, and just for Nokia, the cell phones owned by the people who supposedly made the calls could be checked, but because SO MUCH of the "official" 9/11 story doesn't add up, the cell phone calls from the planes is to be HIGHLY questioned.
I suspect the planes were remote controlled. Read up on the patten by Boeing about remote control access and how it completely blocks access from the airplane until it lands.
Cell phones worked on airplanes just fine at low altitudes and speeds. You just weren’t allowed to use them because “it would mess up the navigational equipment”.
