Hitler came up with a plan to allow Jews who wanted to leave, to leave Germany where their assets would be repatriated to them over a few years with a percentage up front. It worked out well for both Germany and the Jews. He proposed this to his central bank president (Hjalmar Schaacht), who said that he need to get permission from the Bank of London.
Hjalmar then gains audience with the president of Bank of London (yeah he was well connected), and made the proposal. The president of BoL said that he needs to get okay from the Head Rabbi.
The Rabbi said no deal. Hitler should only allow Jews to leave Germany if they are headed to Israel, but no where else.
(The details might be off, as I read the book a couple years ago, but the book is available on the internet for free and worth reading for anyone interesting in Nazis, Hitler, WW2, etc.)
