Nothing against this dude personally. Support his message for sure. And there's nothing wrong with flavors of bluegrass. But, as a musician myself who respects a plethora of various genres, styles, and vibes.... This guy just doesn't do anything for me musically. His style feels very forced and unnatural.
Just a guess but I think it's his singing voice. It's far removed from his natural way of speaking from the interviews I've heard. It's as if he is trying to sound a certain way that either he wants to sound to himself (which is almost always a bad musical judgement call lol) or he wants to sound this way for the audience. Either way, it feels off to my ears.
not sure if you remember Mel Tillis, but that man could sing, but he couldn't talk without stuttering. many people do not sing the way they talk. you have to have range in songs, but not in a regular conversation.

His song Rich Men North of Richmond brought a whole lot of people to tears, mostly on his voice. The pain was clear. Being an empath… that song hurt.
