I’ve never understood the “chosen people” concept. Wouldn’t that be like a parent having to choose a favorite child? Seriously inquiring, I’ve thought this throughout my entire life as a church going person.
Yes, but not having to choose. Willing, happy to choose.
Many/most things don't make sense without historical context, and as I've gone through life I've found more and more this has been one of the biggest issues related to comprehension of the world in which we live.
Why do we do things like we do? Why are we constantly doing this thing which doesn't make sense? Understand history and you will understand today.
They were the chosen because there were no other people on the planet who loved God the Father, for one.

God always has His remnant. Israel is His chosen people. Think Abrahamic covenant.

God had to have a chosen people to bring the Messiah through. How else would Jesus fulfill all the law and prophets.
