I always thought that was the brazen serpent that Moses was told by God to raise, so that people bitten by the snakes could look to it and be healed.
In all honesty, though, any medicine tradition in the Christian world that doesn't incorporate faith in Jesus Christ as an element to getting healed should be shunned as Satanic. No one did more healing than Jesus did, and we should be constantly questioning what he did and how we can replicate the results.
I do not think the answer is calling pharmaceuticals (sorcery in the Bible) medicine.
I think it has a lot to do with how you live your life, how you engage in your psyche and whether you reach out to help others.
Jesus devoted his life to healing, people have a hard time getting that through their head, like we could just follow that example, but people choose sportsball and fastfood instead.
