What does the "purchased children" part pertain to? I've never heard that story.
Gay man meets gay man and wants to start a family. What's the next step?
Hmm seems like an unfair characterization if both are loving parents.
Edit: Look, downvote me all you want, I was raised in the church so I understand the concern, but I think it's silly to think modern heterosexual marriages are any more stable than modern gay relationships. We live in an imperfect world, if two men or two women think they can give an orphan a loving home and they can be properly vetted, who am I to stop them?
What prevents two pedophile men from posing as gay to purchase children? Do you support a single man acquiring children through adoption? Should a single man be allowed to purchase a young girl? Most people are against this because the potential for abuse is so high. Yes this discriminates against a single man whose motivations might be pure, but talk to most single (straight) men and they happily accept that (minor) amount of discrimination in order to protect children. This is also why we don’t let single men lead troops of Girl Scouts on three-day camping trips away from their parents. It’s weird. And any man righteously demanding he get to do so is suspect. If his intentions were genuinely pure, he would understand the concerns of parents and not even push for that position.
And all of this applies equally to gay men. They represent the same predatory threat.
I agree it's a risk, but we live in an imperfect world where the institution of marriage is no longer respected as a whole and the possibility of abuse exists in any family. I'm sure Dave Ruben and his husband are in a better parenting situation than a majority of heterosexual couples/single parents. Would you take that away from them simply because of your own beliefs? Gay adoption is currently legal in all 50 states. Do you think conservatives should make this our next big issue? I don't.
Excellent perspective, thank you.
