In the context of this scripture, the Lord is pronouncing Judgment of the shepherd by permanently "darkening" his eye. In my opinion the Occultists pledge their allegiance by "darkening" their own eye in an act of defiance of God. Remember the Devil tried to use scripture against Christ himself.
