the actual history of this place is simple. Jews and Arabs lived here during the Ottoman Empire. after the collapse of the Ottoman Empire there was no "palestinian state" or anything like that. it was decided that Jews would get a state called Israel in the same spot as the historic state of Israel.
this means there was a huge influx of jewish immigration. So-called Palestinians were never "oppressed" or killed here. what actually happened is they hate Jews and a Jewish state so much they rallied together and attacked Israel in the miraculous 6-day war, where the fledgling country defended itself from multiple hostile nations.
at this point, the arabs still in Israel were persona non grata. they had joined the invaders and killed their jewish neighbors. they should have been killed, but nobody wanted to genocide them. they could have been forced to leave, but no nation would take them in.
so yes, Gaza is now a terrible place to be. the residents are hateful and born to kill, and have been for generations. they believe "the jews stole their country" but this is nonsense. there was no muslim "nation of palestine" that got stamped out and replaced by Israel. there were simply muslim residents of the Ottoman Empire unwilling to live in a jewish state after the Ottoman Empire collapsed.
and while there may have been plans for a Palestinian state to exist at some point, this was effectively forfeited when the Gaza residents chose to attack Israel. during this war Israel captured land almost reaching to Cairo and gave most of it back in exchange for peace. In my opinion Israel was under no obligation to do that and is certainly not obligated to create a palestinian state in the tiny, Delaware-sized portion of land they kept.
