At the peak of my career I worked for McGrawHill Ed. Started as an intern, and when I left I was head of (I’m sorry if I leave out juicy detail but I don’t want to dox myself.🫡). It was my dream job. I worked with editors, designers, content creators…mostly an office floor full of nerd women who had not become teachers tucked away in a quiet industrial park. The 4 men who worked on that floor were all department heads. There were a couple guys in the design dept, but otherwise all women—ranging from cat-lady to Christian scholar. (That’s right, they did Sunday school books as well). There were a couple of flakes, but no rabid blue-haired gender-studies majors. (Jobs at that time still required classically educated book-worms.)
Most of the school book content was grandfathered into their digital bank from their old text books. I know—because I helped build their digital library when the great “paper to computer” exodus occurred. This was also common when they would purchase or acquire another book imprint. It wasn’t just blocks of text, but huge banks of images (think math/science diagrams / charts / illustrations etc.). They were in a huge publisher race to provide online content resources back in the day.
Now about squirrelly corporate shit:
Yes. I did witness some…oddness. Normal everyday life was pretty lackluster. But I lived to see / survive a couple of publishing mergers and acquisitions while there. My impression was transformed by the colorful characters I met coming from our …parent company …out of New York.
I’m not going to bullshit you, this is NO exaggeration. 🤣 Our office had a secret nickname for the NY CEO who would come visit. “the Gumba.” This guy was legitimately wealthy—but he spoke, moved, and maneuvered like a street captain on the Sopranos. (The icing on the cake was seeing his trophy wife in a fur coat and Peg Bundy bouffant hair with leopard-print hot pants. It was a matrix glitch moment.)
Funny stereotypes aside, that’s when I became aware of some ugly business practices that were occurring. Cooking the books—so to speak…corporate smoke and mirror practices…dirty dealings. That’s probably just normal business practice in the big city but I was grossed out to see it up close.
Was Ghislaine Maxwell editing human reproduction textbooks to include toddlers? Not in my office—but there WAS a slimy UNDERBELLY of staff strategically arranged in key positions. (And this was decades ago.) Who knows the abominable blue freaks who edit their content now.
It’s more than blue freaks. Think about the WEF young global leaders. They get themselves into corporate positions then push the agenda.
Also the Italian mafia same as Irish and Jewish, used their illicit wealth to go into formal business. It’s similar to what the Crips and Bloods are doing today with the music industry. These corporations have grown so massive, they are now supranational and their CEOs and executives are more powerful than governments. Nancy Pelosi, her maiden name is one of the Sicilian crime families. The Kennedy’s ran alcohol with the Irish mafia. These governments and companies are just veneers for an assortment of crime families.
Rumors in NYC during the 2008 financial crises was that many of these mob families had their money invested in AIG and so on, Wallstreet is between a rock and a hard place. The angry American people, or angry organized crime that has invested millions in your “securities” and assets.

😳THIS. Totally this. I feel like I witnessed it., and it was surreal. 🤪 The Gumba and his Entourage included accountants, lawyers and lackeys to do his biding—but he and his wife both felt like they had never seen a book—especially a school book, so him running a giant educational publish company made zero sense. I wish I’d had a picture of him, showing up to give an employee annual pep talk—on stage with his dark pinstripe suit and a pinky ring.
Makes sense now though if he bought his way into it. Also explains the fear his lackeys had of him.
Just like the mafia runs waste management and junkyards in NY. Then Irish run the NYPD And NYPD union. Have you seen the movie gangs of NY? With DiCaprio? It’s based on a loose history of the NY gangs.
Story time, frens.
