In my youth (admittedly many decades ago) a "tranny" was a transistor or transistor radio - as opposed to a valve radio (vacuum toob radio, for Americans). Interesting to note how language morphs.
I always heard it as slang for transmission. I USED it recently on twatter in a comment that was related to the brain-dead fools who have lost sight of their birth and genetic identity. It was not received well by Big Brother there. I would not consider this use to be a legitimate morphing.....more like forcing their nonsense down everyone's throat. Really sick of this crap.
