Sorry about "Yanks" then I didn't realise it was detrimental. I thought it was one of those short forms which were OK to say, like for example "Brits" or "Aussies."
Although we're not supposed to shorten to "Pakis" or "Japs" apparently. I think the jury is still out as to whether "Taffs", "Paddies", and "Jocks" are allowed.
There is sensitive divide that goes back to the civil war, there is no way you’d get away with referring to a southerner as a yank, as for the rest of us in the uk , Ireland and the dominions the average Anglo Celt are thick skinned enough to fire back with humour.
