Even though I have a degree in Library Science, I chose not to use it when I saw how much they wanted those types of story hours. I have a magazine from 2013 or 2015 about how to incorporate this in the library setting. It was very unsettling to me.
Good for you to keep yourself separated from that environment. I have a friend who was an elementary school teacher for years and retired when the school system started pushing the pornography into the classroom. She was not about to be a part of that filth, gave up her career.
Unfortunately those are the exact people we need in there warning parents & pushing back.
My friend is a prison guard & has told me that all the older guys have been pushed out by "crap" policies that make zero sense. The ones that used to teach newer officers how to use their gut correctly & which tricks only come with experience. All lost in a few years as the older officers took a lower retirement & went to work security. Now the prison is staffed with guys that are all less than 10 years in, & many leave due to managerial incompetence. I believe when they finally take their retirement out, they will be the longest serving guy with only 10 or 15 years in & a few months to make sure they don't screw him out of retirement. They have done it to multiple other officers claiming that they didn't get approved time off & somehow fell short by a day or two for their retirement.
We need educators in the system who are willing to stand up against the evil being pushed into the schools now. Really we need it at every single level of public sector jobs.
It wouldn’t surprise me if this were a deliberate attempt to destabilize prisons. Like so many other places, even simple short-staffing can have a deleterious effect on operations - not even taking into account the crucial points you make about loss of expertise.
I wouldn't be suprised & have thought this myself. The officer I have spoken with just thinks the management is incompetent & doesn't believe there is anything deeper than that. Unfortunately they also don't want to get involved with politics or dig deeper because they believe things will never change. I am hoping they come around with more time.

The privatized prisons are the worse as they are profit driven. Cheapest they can get something.
