I mean that's one of the first things about murder: outside of failed muggings (motive) or gang hits (motive), most murders tend to be by someone who had a connection with the murdered.
It doesn't really check out in general for there to be so many mass random murders with no connections to anyone there.
It is also almost never with any other weapons than guns as well, whereas more commonplace murders can be done with bludgeoning, stabbings, etc.
