The hydra is visible to the eye and is found in ponds. The biology teacher in 10th grade wanted us to bring water samples from ditches to check out under the microscope. I was always an over achiever, so I took a quart canning jar out to a pond behind our house. I climbed down the edge to the water and filled up the jar to the top and put the cap on. After everything settled down, I could see a hydra attached to the side of the jar. I took it to school the next day, and the teacher was excited to see the hydra.
I think the one I saw might fit through a very large needle. Perhaps a baby one might fit through a regular needle.
There also is a very similar appearance to Plant Stellate Trichomes that are being found in the skin of persons suffering from Morgellon's disease. Check out this article:
