I read the Koran in its entirety around 2010. It is an incredibly difficult text to read. What hardly anyone knows is that the suras are not arranged either thematically or by date of origin. In the current Koran, they are arranged according to length!
After a long search, I found a Koran (in German, as I am German) that had the suras arranged according to their date of origin. And lo and behold, the peaceful suras were all written when Mohammed still had to fear for his survival. Incidentally, he was financed by his wealthy, widowed wife, who was twenty years his senior.
In the later suras, Islam became increasingly bloodthirsty. This of course contradicts the early suras. Since, according to the unanimous interpretation of all four(?) Islamic schools of law, every single utterance of Muhammad corresponds to Allah's will, there is now a problem that was solved in such a way that the last sura in terms of time is always the version that applies literally and directly (abrogation).
The Koran was initially written down on dried palm leaves, among other things. It was not until Muhammad's son-in-law, Uthman, had all the versions that could be found collected, destroyed and the current text published. However, all Christians should now be very careful, as the basis and interpretation of the Christian faith was also a compromise enforced by Emperor Constantine at the Council of Nicaea.
In the 11th century, Islamic schools of law defined all religious, secular and scientific problems as having been solved by Muhammad's words. For this reason, there is a fatwa in Germany, for example, which is dedicated to the question of whether a believer may drink Red Bull. Incidentally, a fatwa is only valid for as long as the person issuing it is alive.
Important insights for me (also from reading some of the hadiths) are:
There can only be peace on earth after the conversion or destruction of all unbelievers, especially the Jews; There can therefore only ever be a temporary truce with unbelievers (fitnah); To spread the true faith, the believer must lie (taqiya).
Unfortunately, I can no longer find the original quote, but Erdogan said that there was no distinction between Islam and Islamism. "Islam is Islam and that's that."
As always, all you can do is read the sources, and the vast majority of Mohammedans have certainly never done so.
It is important to read the Hadith & Sharia as well. I found this website extremely helpful. https://www.politicalislam.com/author/
