Besides the obvious answer, movies are too busy leeching off each other. There is too much trend following. Movies several decades ago were trying to tell new stories rather than repackaging old ones. Modern movies are getting stale, offering nothing new, so people just ignore them.
Yeah it’s kinda wild. Put all hatred of actors aside: there is like 10 fast and furious, 7 mission impossible?, a million Star Wars, a million Harry potters, a million super hero spinoffs.
It’s like the only hit movies now are just riding the same wave and it’s starting to fade.
I will say the 8 or 10 episode season shows are doing well and much more entertaining. Things like Yellowstone, Jack reacher, etc. I think that style will best movies out because you can only fit so much in a couple hours and no book really fits well into a single movie.
