I noticed that too. The whole anti-virus push back in the day must have really been intelligence gathering. Look at how powerful McAfee got. People eager to install software that scans every bit consumed on a hard drive. How naive were we?

I've been running linux as my desktop for 12 years straight and don't use anti-virus software, but back in the day I sure did.

I have never used any anti-virus. I have been computing since 1989 and never once got a virus, trojan horse, or anything. It's all a matter of safe computing.
