We give our dogs heart worm med. and it says on the outside of the box "ivermectin".
The dosage for dogs is very different than other animals. It takes a very small amount, too much will kill them. I did some research a long time ago because I wondered why the price was so high for the dogs pills vs. the horse paste. A dogs dosage is so small that it would be very difficult to dose it properly in a different form.
I have been giving all my dogs the cattle injectable ivermectin for many years for heartworm. They get it once a month.
The dosage is almost exactly the same as for humans based on weight. The dosage for dogs is 1/10th CC for every 10 pounds of body weight.
The dosage for humans is actually slightly lower at 1 CC for every 110 pounds of body weight. POU is right, you don't give it to Collie breeds.
you inject the dogs or give it orally ? "I have been giving all my dogs the cattle injectable ivermectin" can you elaborate on what product and how you administer it?
The product I am using currently is Aspen Ivomax, but I have used a few different brands of the injectable. This is the 1% solution. I put it on some of their wet food, and they will still eat it even though they seem to taste it. From my experience taking it myself it is bitter. I make sure to put enough food out with it that they don't get as strong a taste, but still finish the food in one sitting.
Ivermectin Sheep Drench is what I use. Its about $35 for an 8 oz bottle and if you have a small dog, the bottle will expire before you use it all. Thats how little you need. A drop on a biscuit for my 98 lb doberman, an example. Its available at any feed store like Tractor Supply, and I've even ordered it from Amazon. The recommended dose is 0.034 cc per 10 pounds of body weight, or approximately 0.1 cc per 30 pounds of body weight. So you see you need the right small syringe. I dont mix into food unless they are very hungry. I hide in a treat or squirt right into their mouth.
I am so thankful. I am giving mine now since I read this article Ivermectin every 10 days. If it blocks COVID 19 it should block this also.
