I've tried to tell a few people this fact, but no one seems to have the sense to understand.
A military attacking its own people will have it's supply lines cut off immediately. Not one that those pilots and machine gun operators have to sleep, and they have to land / take off. There are so many points of vulnerability that they could not cover them all against millions of armed citizens.
Even back in WWII the Japanese knew that an invasion onto American soil would be suicide. It would be worse if you were trying to take over the country that is supplying your army with its bare essentials.

How do you defeat the largest Air Force in the world? On the ground. The largest Army? In garrison. Navy? In port.
