I was a computer science college student when they introduced computers into elections. My first thought was, "The cheating will be epic." How did they not know? They knew.

It’s just common sense. All computers have all kinds of software and hardware vulnerabilities. Most people think use of computers is safe. Convenience ≠ Secure.
