I'm going with you on this and say yes there very probably were. Because some people don't ever get past the Denial stage.

Tucker Carlson gave a talk recently (last couple of months) that includes an anecdote about him flying in the Middle East on a plane that was emergency landing, war zone, lives in danger, etc, and one of the stewards went into full denial, couldn't even mode. He stood there trying to tell everyone nothing was wrong, stay in their seats, don't open the door and take the floaty ramp down... Tucker now believes there is a percentage of these people that will never wake up even as they're about to die, and that it's a bad idea to fall in with them or obey them, if you want to survive.
