In the Canterburry Tales by Geoffrey Chaucer from the late 1300s, the ritual murder of Christian children by these demons was forever immortalized in A Prioress' Tale. It was common knowledge way back in medieval times, never a legend or theory because they got caught over the centuries and Christians never forgot, its in the DNA.
