I don’t believe the rise of the end of the world movie genre in the 21st century is a coincidence. 28 Days Later kicked off the new century in 2002, directed by the man who would go on to direct the predictive programming London Olympics Opening Ceremony in 2012. The intervening two decades have seen movies, games and TV shows pumping this fear porn genre out. Not just dystopian, but full on societal collapse (Shaun of the Dead, War of the Worlds, World War Z, The Road, 28 Weeks Later, I Am Legend, The Walking Dead, Rainbow Six, 70s remakes like Dawn of the Dead and Planet of the Apes are just a few that come to mind…)
Contagion (2011) is to 2020-25 what this latest Netflix move will likely be to 2025-30 if the glowie dipshits have anything to do with it. Netflix have already dabbled in this genre at least once before with Greenland, and let’s not forget that as well as the aspiring socialist engineering Obamas, Netflix co-founder Marc Randolph is a great-nephew of propaganda guru Edward Bernays and psychobabbler extraordinaire Sigmund Freud… Again, not a coincidence…

I really stopped watching movies in the early 70's.
