No for-profit college should receive any taxpayer money, ever, period.
Harvard has an endowment north of 50 billion dollars. This is more money than the GDP of many nations. Yale and University of Texas system are both north of 40 billion. Michigan and Notre Dame are 20 billion.
Yet students pay 60k per year or more to attend these schools. When I went to Michigan in the 80s yearly tuition was about 20k. My niece is paying over 50k. Its easy to raise it this high when a State University no longer serves the students of its State but foreigners from the middle east and China.
When I went to Michigan it was predominantly Michigan kids. If you were top 30 in your HS you would get in easy. My niece was valedictorian at her HS but got wait listed and had to go to Michigan State for her freshmen year until she got into Michigan.
A University education is a scam, a grift. All for a piece of paper that says you have been properly indoctrinated. It no longer means you were properly educated.
And dont get me started on some of these degrees they hand out. A University should instruct in STEM related fields. Nobody needs a degree in womens studies or black empowerment or art history or psychology or even communications. These degrees are completely worthless and can only be used for culture war fields like human resources and DEI officer. And the degrees do nothing but saddle the student with almost unpayable debt. Now you know why Gen Z cant afford a house.
Amen. I went to University of Illinois 40 years ago. It was sort of hard to get in then but now it's crazy. If they are going to give preference to anyone the state universities should give preference to people who live and have lived and paid taxes in the state for some time. The number of Chinese at U of I when my kids went to college was NUTS. My STEM son was waitlisted and went elsewhere, by Liberal Arts got in but didn't want to go to U of I, probably because I kept bitching about the corrupt Presidents handing out really hard to get admissions to their friends.
