Usnea tincture is a natural antibiotic. You can find Usnea (it's considered a lichen, also called Old Mans Beard) on tree branches, especially ones that have fallen to the ground or maybe even on the trunks of trees. Once you collect enough you can clean them up of any debris (pieces of branch), don't have to wash with water because you can either make a tea with it or put it into 80 proof vodka in a glass jar and let sit for at least 8 weeks before straining and using. Dosage is 1/2 tsp (60 drops). I've made my own tincture & I've also made tea with it. I've used it for uti's and it works. If you use Usnea, I was told to make sure you drink plenty of fluids. You can also use Usnea on wounds.
This article is good to help identify which lichen is actually Usnea. I've read somewhere (not sure if this site says it or not, but there are actually many different types of Usnea, but to be on the safe side, I'd stick with this particular one)...
Edit to add: When I take my tincture, I put it in about half a cup of water and drink it. Also, here is a post I did on some natural remedies awhile back...
