The main reason is because the ER will see people regardless of insurance. And if you’re using out of area insurance most ER’s will try to bill what ever coverage you have. If you need to pay out of pocket/cash, most ER’s especially County ER’s will set up a payment plan one can afford. Last, if you are an immigrant or illegal, it’s pretty much free for them, and fees/cost are eaten by the hospital. Oh, and if you have Medi-Cade/Medi-Cal, and Medi-Care, an ER visit is nearly 100% covered.
If you’re a med-seeker/frequent-flyer, ER’s tend to be more liberal with pain/sleeper type meds, to make people happy, get them the F out of their lobby for a few days.
I know nothing about the medical system. I wish I had some idea of all the medi-x insurance. I'm pretty sure they see anybody because it's law. I think older hospitals did what they could to fight that. But now they are just federally controlled death camps and administrator money printers, I'm sure.
It's so frustrating to see people who know our medical system can't be trusted go straight to the hospital the minute they get a cough or runny nose.
What sense does it make to seek help from the ones you know are trying to hurt/kill you?
From my prior work experience:

I'm not sure your reply was meant for me.
It was an informational response to your “I’m not sure why””…”. That’s all. I was just responding to why people go there for simple issues .
I didn't ask why they were going for simple issues. I was asking why they went at all, since they know the staff there are not to be trusted.
My post was about trust in the medical system. It didn't have anything to do with costs or insurance.
