The Flintstones was meant to be an adult cartoon in the same vein as The Simpsons, Family Guy, and South Park. William Hanna and Joseph Barbara felt that they were able do things with the characters that they were not able to do on any other series such as Yogi Bear or Tom and Jerry. These include:

  • Water Buffalo Lodge Activities
  • Women jumping out of cakes
  • Dealing with infertility (Betty Rubble)
  • and so on...
